Day
1:
We start your Costa Rica kayaking adventure
with a taxi ride to the Rincon River, where we start our adventure kayaking
down river to the Golfo Dulce. The river is great for
bird watching. We cross the Rincon Bay where we will
dock to see our first waterfall. We can do some light rock climbing
here and walk in a beautiful riverbed. We paddle along the coast from
here on and stop to explore deserted beaches and trails that lead into
the forest. Snorkeling at small reefs along the way is possible. We
always stop to explore the mysterious "Mogos Islands " (said to hold
buried pirate treasure and Indian burial grounds). We will stop at a
cove called " Paradise ", where we can get a rustic cabin on shore,
or sleep on a dock on stilts 100 yd. off shore. We will get to walk
up river to some really beautiful waterfalls, and if time permits we
will hike in the jungle. We have an excellent dinner on the dock, and
then a night paddle is possible.
Day
2: We start with a big breakfast before we head out kayaking.
We will be exploring the Esquinas River (largest mangrove estuary
on the Gulf of Dulce), looking for wildlife of all types (monkeys, raccoons,
dolphins, rays, Jesus Christ lizards, butterflies, all types of birds,
etc.). We have lunch on the beach before we paddle to Caña
Blanca Lodge (for the deluxe package) or Caña Blanca
Beach (for the standard package). Here you will check into
your cabin or set up your tent, and then have the choice of hiking,
swimming, or just relaxing at the lodge or on the beach. We then have
dinner at the lodge or on the beach, and then a night hike or kayaking
is possible.
Day
3: We start kayaking at 5 a.m. (it is nice
to leave early so you get a few hours of kayaking before
the sun comes up) and have a light breakfast in the middle of the gulf.
We will have a great view of the sunrise from the kayaks. The crossing
usually takes 2 ½ -4 hours (depending on the tide, wind, and
the group itself). We can also rent a water taxi for $25/person (this
allows a morning hike or paddle if the group feels like it). We dock
the boats at the Puerto Jimenez Yacht Club, right by the pier.
