Day 1: We start our adventure kayaking out of Puerto Jimenez. We will be exploring the mangroves looking for all types of animals and then hitting the largest reef in the gulf for some snorkeling. We see all types of pacific reef fish, turtles, rays, and sometimes-even dolphins. We will be camping at the lodge La Llanta Picante and having dinner there. A night hike is possible. Day 2: After breakfast we start paddling along the coastline, exploring the mangroves along the way. This is an excellent time to see dolphins, turtles, rays, and whales (whales are in the gulf over half the year). We have lunch on a deserted beach and then more coastal exploration. We will be camping at Playa Blanca, where we will have dinner at a local restaurant on the beach. We are close to a bar so a few drinks after dinner is possible. Day 3: After breakfast at a local restaurant we will start paddling along the coast and exploring more mangroves. We have lunch on a deserted beach and then more mangrove exploring. We will land in Rincon, where we get beachfront cabins. We will have dinner in Rincon, at one of the local restaurants. A night paddle is possible after dinner. Day 4: After breakfast at the hotel, we start paddling the top of the gulf. We will hit waterfalls only accessible by boat early in the morning; light rock climbing is possible here for the more adventurous. We will be able to do some snorkeling before and after lunch, which will be on a deserted beach. We get to explore the mysterious Mogos Islands, said to hold pirate treasure and Indian burial grounds. We then head to Paradise Beach where we can get rustic cabins, or sleep on a dock out on the water. There are some great waterfalls to explore here, and if time permits, hiking in the forest. We will have dinner on the dock and then a night paddle is possible. Day 5: We have breakfast out on the dock then it is a short paddle to a private reserve where we will hike to the nicest waterfalls on the Osa. We will also be exploring the Esquinas River, largest mangrove system on the Gulf of Dulce. We have lunch on a deserted beach then paddle to Caña Blanca Beach, where we will set up our tents. Hiking, paddling, and swimming are all possible before dinner, which is on the beach under a thatched roof. A night hike or paddle is possible after dinner. Day 6: We start paddling at 5 a.m. (it is nice to leave early so you get a few hours of paddling in before the sun comes up) and have a light breakfast in the middle of the gulf. We will have a great view of the sunrise from the kayaks. The crossing usually takes 2 ½ -4 hours (depending on the tide, wind, and the group itself). We can also rent a water taxi for $25/person (this allows for a hike or paddle after breakfast). We dock the boats at the Puerto Jimenez Yacht Club, right by the pier Budget: $525/person
