8 Day Kayaking Adventure

Day 1: Coastal and mangrove exploration, plus snorkeling the largest reef in the Gulf of Dulce. Camping and Dinner at La Llanta Picante Lodge

Day 2: Coastal and mangrove exploration. We will be camping and having dinner at Playa Blanca. We are close to a bar, so a few drinks after dinner is possible.

Day 3: Breakfast at a restaurant, and then more coastal and mangrove exploration. We will be in the Rincon Mangrove, second largest on the gulf. We will land in Rincon where we get beachfront Cabins, and have dinner at one of the restaurants in town. A night paddle is possible after dinner.

Day 4: We have breakfast at the cabins and then start paddling the coastline. After a short paddle we will hit a waterfall that is only accessible by boat, light rock climbing is also possible here. We will be able to do some snorkeling before or after lunch, which we will be having on a deserted beach. We then get to explore the mysterious Mogos Islands, said to hold pirate treasure and Indian burial grounds. We will then paddle to Paradise Beach, where we can get a rustic cabin on the beach, or stay on a dock out in the water. We have waterfalls to explore here, and jungle hiking if time permits. We have dinner out on the deck, and then a night paddle is possible.

Day 5: We have breakfast out on the dock and then a short paddle to a private reserve with the nicest waterfalls in the area. We will also be exploring the Esquines River, largest mangrove in the gulf. Lunch will be on a deserted beach. We will camp at Paradise Beach again, having dinner out on the dock. A night paddle is possible after dinner.

Day 6: After a big breakfast on the dock, we will paddle to Caña Blanca Beach. We can do some snorkeling along the way if the group feels like it. After we set up our tents on Caña Blanca Beach, we will have the option of hiking, kayaking, or just relaxing on the beach. We will have dinner under a thatched roof on the beach and then a night hike or paddle is possible.

Day 7: After breakfast on the beach, we will be hiking up into the hidden valley (Piedras Blancas National Park – the sister park to Corcovado) for the day. We have lunch in the valley and then return to camp another night at Caña Blanca Beach. After dinner a night hike or paddle is possible.

Day 8: After breakfast on the beach we will start to paddle for Dolphin Quest Lodge, where we will set up our tents (beds in the bunkhouse can be had for $21 extra). Along the way we can stop to explore a small botanical garden, Casa Orquidia, and enjoy any fruit that is fresh at the time. We have lunch at Dolphin Quest, and then a hike up to waterfalls or just relaxing (we can also arrange scuba diving, horseback riding, or a massage). We have dinner at the lodge as well.

Day 9: We start paddling at 5 a.m. and have a light breakfast in the middle of the gulf. We will have a great view of the sunrise from the kayaks. The crossing usually takes 2 ½ -4 hours (depending on the tide, wind, and the group itself). We can also rent a water taxi for $25/person (which allows a hike or paddle after breakfast). We dock the boats at the Puerto Jimenez Yacht Club, right by the pier.

Budget: $850/person
Standard: $1200
